Celebrations at Focus Consultants, as museum project wins key award

The team at Focus Consultants is celebrating the news that St Fagans National Museum of History in Wales has won a top award.
Focus is the project manager and quantity surveyor for a wide-ranging redevelopment currently on-going at the site in Cardiff. The company also provided business planning and funding advice for the preparation of the Heritage Lottery Fund bid, which, at £11.55 million, was the HLF’s largest grant award in Wales when it was awarded in 2012.
Now the museum has won the Tourism and Leisure Category in the RICS Awards 2018, Wales, for the redevelopment of its Grade II listed main building.
The judges said they were impressed by Focus Consultants, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Purcell and Kier Construction's approach to the new building, Gweithdy, which sits amongst historical buildings in Grade I Listed woodlands, providing an eco-friendly opportunity for creativity.

Focus Consultants, which is based at Phoenix Business Park, Nottingham, and has branches in London, Leicester, and in Boston, Lincolnshire, has worked on developments with many of the major national and regional museums in the UK.
St Fagans National Museum of History is the second most visited open-air museum in Europe, and Wales’ most visited heritage attraction with more than 600,000 visitors per year. It is also the largest provider in Wales of learning outside the classroom with 360,000 family visitors and 85,000 formal education visitors. Established as a museum in 1948, St Fagans was the first open-air museum in the UK.
The RICS 2018 Wales Award judges went on to say:
“St Fagans National Museum of History has been transformed into a world-class, participatory, inclusive and unique museum and visitor attraction driven by the needs of its users. As a gateway to Welsh history and culture, St Fagans will become one of the great museums of history, defining Wales as a contemporary multi-cultural nation, connected to the wider world.”
The awards ceremony was held at the Radisson Blu in Cardiff and showcased the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure in Wales. Finalists now go forward to the RICS Awards Grand Final on 2nd November in London.
