Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

Record Number Attend Annual Chamber Celebration

Over 80 attendees from businesses across Staffordshire and Derbyshire enjoyed the Burton and District Chamber of Commerce’s annual celebration lunch held at Burton Albion Football Club on 24 May 2018.

This record attendance reflects the group’s growing membership which saw an increase of 12% last year across the Great Birmingham Chamber of Commerce region.

The event was hosted by the newly elected President of Burton and District Chamber of Commerce Nik Hardy, Managing Director of Hardy Signs and was also attended by newly appointed Vice-President Monica Douglas-Clark of Jones & Clark. Members also recognised the commitment and leadership of outgoing President, Simon Chapman, Managing Director of Yee Group who held the post for three years and will continue in a Vice President role.
Guests were inspired by the headline speaker John Manchester of Repton based Gibson Technology, who shared the incredible journey of the world leading supplier of expertise in high performance race engines for the motorsport industry.

At the event Nik Hardy spoke about his new role and how the chamber and local business community have helped shaped his business, saying:

“I feel truly honoured to have taken over the role of President and I’m looking forward to being the best ambassador I can, in particular promoting and protecting the interests of businesses in our area.

“This year, our business is celebrating its 25th anniversary and a big part of our success has been down to the strong business community spirit we have in the local area which I’m very proud to be part of.

“We also have incredible opportunities for growth, via services such as the Growth Hub, where businesses can gain grants and business support to drive growth and expansion, an initiative we have benefited from.

“I’m looking forward to connecting with people from businesses across the area in the coming weeks and months. With over 20% of the local workforce in Chamber membership and with more than 200 networking events planned each year, there has never been a better time to be a member.”

Simon Chapman, the outgoing President, spoke about his tenure of the last three years:

“I’m delighted to hand over the role of President to Nik Hardy and I know our members will be supporting him in his new capacity to lead the strategic agenda of the Chamber, to promote our thriving and vibrant region.

“When I look back at my time as President it has been an exciting, challenging and demonstrably different three years, seeing significant changes in the politial and economic landscapes. I continue to be impressed at the resilience of local businesses in Staffordshire and Derbyshire, as they continue to adapt to a changing and challenging financial climate.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my support of the Chamber and working with businesses to drive growth across our region.”

John Manchester, Operations Director at Gibson Technology spoke about the event:

“As a business that has its roots in the local area, I was very honoured to speak at the Chamber’s annual celebration and share Gibson Technology’s incredible business journey in the world of motorsport. I hope it inspired attendees and offered them an insight to what is required to be able to compete at the highest levels of motorsport!”

John has worked in the world of motor sport for over 40 years, nearly 20 of those spent as Operations Director of the Repton based company, where the 60-strong team produces race and championship winning products for world famous motorsport drivers including Formula One and Le Mans.
