Radford day centre celebrates 50th anniversary in style

A NOTTINGHAM-based day centre has raised a glass in celebration of its 50th anniversary at two fun-filled sixties themed parties last week (16 and 17 May).

Around 80 people who regularly attend Radford Care Group joined together to enjoy a home cooked lunch, sixties quiz and a disco to celebrate the milestone.

Radford Care Group initially operated out of Radford Primary School, as a lunch club in 1968. Courtesy of Radford YMCA, the team were able to use its canteen to cater for lunches for older people in the area. After demand for its services grew, in 1979 the group moved into its new home on Prospect Street, where it has been based ever since.

CEO of Radford Care Group, Jill Davies said:

“It is great that we are here to celebrate the Care Group’s 50th anniversary. Everyone has put a terrific amount of effort in to get to where we are today and it is important that we celebrate this very important half century.”

In the Care Group’s 50th year work is also expected to start on a £1.3m development to provide more modern facilities for its current members as well as allowing them to expand their day-care, and friendship group facilities, and new activities to the wider community

Jill added:

“This is a huge year for us as an organisation. Not only are we celebrating the half century mark but we are also looking forward to starting our new development. This next stage will be a mammoth step for us and will enable us to care for more people in the community which is greatly needed.”

The project is being delivered by a number of local partners, including architects CPMG and global property consultancy Gleeds.

Radford Care Group is one of the leading charity support groups in Nottingham for the older people, based on Prospect Street in Radford.
