Leading homebuilder takes swift action for declining birds

Five star housebuilder David Wilson Homes has taken a swift initiative at its Oakfields development in Harbury to provide homes for feathered friends as well as new residents.

A carpenter for David Wilson Homes crafted some handmade swift boxes which have now been put up on the show homes and throughout trees at the Bush Heath Lane development. The homebuilder is hoping to provide a home for the fast flying birds, whose breeding numbers have nearly halved in the last 20 years due to declining nesting sites.

John Fitzgerald, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said:

“It is hugely important that we give wildlife as well as people a home at our developments and that is why we have chosen to put up swift boxes at Oakfields.

“The swift boxes will ensure the birds have a home especially designed for them for years to come and we hope that we see some swifts making their nest there soon.”

The homebuilder recently announced the renewal of its partnership with the RSPB. David Wilson Homes and the RSPB will work together to boost biodiversity and promote wildlife at particular developments, including Oakfields. Through such initiatives as hedgehog highways, bee friendly planting and swift bricks, the aim of the partnership is to help all forms of wildlife and nature on new housing developments.

Oakfields is in the desirable village of Harbury and benefits from a beautiful countryside outlook with peaceful surroundings. The development is also ideally located just three miles from the market town of Southam and great commuter links to Warwick, Leamington Spa, Coventry and Birmingham.

A variety of five bedroom homes are for sale at Oakfields, with prices starting from £580,000. For more information call the sales information line on 0844 811 3322 or visit www.dwh.co.uk
