Duncan & Toplis becomes a Platinum partner with Xero as it helps to modernise accountancy

East Midlands accountants Duncan & Toplis have been rewarded for helping the region’s businesses prepare for a digital taxation future.

With one year to go before companies have to file their VAT returns digitally, Duncan & Toplis has achieved the prestigious Platinum Partner status with Xero, the UK’s leading online accountancy platform.

By achieving Platinum status, Duncan & Toplis has been recognised as one of the most experienced digital accountants in the country. The status has been awarded in recognition of the growing number of clients the company has helped make the transition from traditional accounting to cloud based systems.

Director at Duncan & Toplis, Paul McCooey said:

“From April 2019, the government will require many businesses to adapt to digital accountancy. This means that instead of handing over stacks of financial records to accountants, Businesses will need to use cloud accountancy services like Xero which will enable their records to stored and accessed digitally or they need to engage a company like ours do it for them.

“While there are lots of advantages to cloud accountancy, businesses across the country have either been unaware of the move to digital or have found it difficult to make the change, particularly smaller businesses in rural areas like Lincolnshire. Fortunately, we’ve been helping thousands of companies to adjust to the new system and in recognition of this, we’ve now been awarded with the highest status for expertise with the Xero platform. We can help businesses in every sector transition from paper or desktop bookkeeping to cloud accountancy and it’s making a huge difference for them.”

Originally, the government’s Making Tax Digital for Business policy would have required businesses to start using cloud accountancy services from April this year. Last month, it was confirmed that the scheme would be delayed until April 2019 when businesses with turnovers over the VAT threshold will have to use cloud based systems before all businesses have to transition in future.

Duncan & Toplis’ Platinum Partnership with Xero will continue to ensure that businesses across the East Midlands get ready for Making Tax Digital before it becomes mandatory.

Only a handful of other accountants in the East Midlands have attained Xero Platinum Partnership status - and Duncan & Toplis is the only company in Lincolnshire to have reached this landmark status.

Xero enables small businesses and their accountants to have real-time insight into their financial figures. With data stored in the cloud in real time, accounts can be accessed from anywhere and at any time. This means that less time is spent bookkeeping, freeing up time to make informed decisions using the easily accessed data. It also enables accountants to provide more of an advisory role to help their clients prosper.

Damon Anderson, Director of Partner at Xero commented:

“We’re really pleased that Duncan & Toplis has progressed to Platinum Partner status. Through a combination of Xero’s software and the team’s depth of expertise, more businesses in the East Midlands can keep on top of their cash flow, whilst their accountants can simultaneously view the accounts at any time. This is particularly significant in helping more businesses stay on top of their finances in the lead up to Making Tax Digital which comes into force next year.

The platinum partnership with Xero unlocks new ways in which Duncan & Toplis can support clients. Last month, Duncan & Toplis was also awarded an Investor In Customers Gold Award for exceptional customer service and this platinum level partnership with Xero will further enable Duncan & Toplis’ accountants to provide even better support for clients.
