Farmer & Carlisle Toyota donate £1,550 to local charity Hope Against Cancer

2 million people in the UK are living with or are affected by cancer. This figure is set to rise to 4 million by 2030.

Over 250,000 people in England are diagnosed with cancer every year and around 130,000 of those people will lose their lives as a result of the disease.

Improving survival rates can be achieved through two factors:

1.     The speed of the detection of cancer and

2.     An increased array of methods available to clinicians to treat the disease.

Thanks to life-saving research more people are surviving cancer, in fact, survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years.

Around 5,000 people within Leicestershire are diagnosed with cancer each year and the region currently has hot spots of cancer associated with cultural and socio-economic factors and healthcare inequalities.

Our project to purchase a DNA Marker (cancer detection machine) seeks to influence potential practice changes in early detection, prevention and  treatment of cancers.  Access to this technology for individuals battling cancer in Leicestershire will help to increase survival rates both now and well into the future.

John Carlisle, Chairman of Farmer & Carlisle Toyota said:

“We have had the opportunity to work with Hope on many occasions.  Their dedication, enthusiasm and out of the box thinking is helping to take cancer research in Leicestershire to the next level.  We are proud to be able to help and support our local cancer research charity.”

Nigel Rose,  Hope Against Cancer Chief Executive  said:

“Ensuring that Leicester remains a hub of expertise in cancer research to the benefit of local cancer patients throughout  Leicestershire and Rutland is a key strategic aim of our charity. This funding from the Toyota (GB) Charitable Trust has  been carefully prioritised with our partners at the University of Leicester and the hospitals to make a positive impact in our fight against cancer. The support from the Toyota Fund not only means a great deal to us but to anyone affected by cancer.

"The funding that we’ve received from the Toyota (GB) Charitable Trust is helping us to install expensive, but vital equipment on site at the Leicester Royal Infirmary over the course of the next month.  This will be used by our clinicians and researchers to speed up investigation into and development of a liquid biopsy, improve treatments in endometrial cancer, and develop targeted medicines to treat lung cancers.”
