Students learn about life of a lawyer

Students from Ace Academy in Tipton had a special insight into accessing the legal world when they visited the offices of one of Birmingham’s major law firms.

The Year 12 students who are currently taking their Level 3 BTEC exams in Applied Law, which covers an element of law, visited Clarke Willmott LLP and heard from Head of Office Rayner Grice.

Rayner talked about her legal life story and how she worked her way up to being Partner and Head of Office. The talk also included helpful tips on the different options available for progression into a career in law, getting work experience and resilience.

After hearing from Rayner, the group sat with other fee earners from the office and asked questions about law, careers and Courtroom experiences.

Rayner Grice said:

“It was great to welcome the students from Ace Academy to our offices and we’re pleased to hear that they thought it was a worthwhile visit.

“Myself and other members of the team were happy to give advice on the students’ upcoming exam but also to try to inspire them into a career in the law. Traditionally younger people may not feel that the Law is accessible due to the cost of university and funding the professional qualifications. I hoped that I showed  that there are other ways to access a legal career rather than the traditional university and law degree route.

“The team really enjoyed talking to the students, sharing experiences with them and being able to answer their legal questions.

“Experiences like this are vital for inspiring the next generation of lawyers and we hope to see some of those students coming back through our doors in a professional capacity!”
