Nottingham stylist makes the cut to join top industry creative team

A Nottingham hair stylist has scooped a place on one of the industry's most coveted creative teams.

Mary Geoghegan, advanced stylist at KH Hair in Castle Gate, was chosen from hundreds of hopefuls across the UK to become one of only six members of the Sebastian Professional Cult Team 2018.

Over the next two years, Mary (28) and the team are set to inspire the industry with artistic, provoking and inspirational hair - redefining the face of modern hairdressing

Following the initial online application round, 20 applicants were selected to attend a live audition at Wella's London studios where they each had two hours to create a truly show-stopping look, demonstrating their styling expertise and hairdressing mastery. In addition, they were judged on their presentation skills and potential platform ability.

The Cult Team will now experience an 18-month mentoring programme which will enable them to experience different types of hairdressing education to further their careers. The sessions will cover topics including photographic skills, wig making, media training, creative hairdressing skills, platform hairdressing insights, product knowledge, presentation guidance and session hairdressing.

"It's absolutely incredible to be invited on to the Sebastian Cult Team." said Mary. "I'm so excited and very much looking forward to being mentored by the brand ambassadors and guest artists as well as working with the rest of the guys in the team."

Salon director, Debbie McMenamin added: "I'm thrilled for Mary. She very much deserves it as she puts her heart and soul into her hairdressing and the care of her clients.  Having previously had a member of staff in the Cult Team, I know what amazing opportunities this will bring her."

Mary's success on the Cult Team completes a hat trick of recent accolades.  In September, she was named the SILVER winner in the UK colour category at Wella's TrendVision UK final and, in April she was given the Directors' Award for special achievement at the KH Hair Group Awards 2018.

Joint managing directors of KH Hair Group, Darren Messias and Tim Fee say they are thrilled for Mary.  "She has achieved so much success in a relevantly small space of time." they said.  "She is a perfect example of how passion, talent and hard work really pay off and we are sure she will only go from strength to strength - both in the salon and in her creative endeavours."
