Landlord's procurement crew crowned team of the year

A Derbyshire procurement team has scooped the team of the year title at the national Go Procurement Awards.

The four-strong procurement team at Ripley-based Futures Housing Group beat organisations including NHS Wales, Northern Ireland Water and Kent and Essex Police to scoop the award.

The team was recognised for the creative way procurement rules are explained to contractors and staff.

Procurement and Contracts Manager at Futures John Thornhill said:

“To be crowned the best in the procurement business is no mean feat and something I am truly proud of.

“We’re a small team and we work hard to ensure that what can be a dry subject is easy to understand and not only means we secure the best results for our customers, but supports the local community.”

The UK National GO Awards recognise public sector procurement excellence, celebrate the role public, private and third sector organisations play in supporting the delivery of public services and are the benchmark by which progress in public sector commissioning is measured.

Futures was among 130 finalists at the awards, with further recognition as the team was also highly commended in the GO Leading Procurement Practice category for work to make it even easier for small and medium-sized contractors to do business with the housing association.

Grahame Steed, Chair of the UK National GO Awards Judging Panel said:

“The UK National GO Awards have showcased the depth of innovation, creativity and commitment in place across the country’s procurement community.

“The judging panel were impressed with the quality and variety of the submissions, which clearly demonstrate the UK’s growth in this area. All of the finalists – whether public, private or third sector – are to be commended for their outstanding work.”
