Conference sets out to help business leaders drive a wellbeing culture

The D2N2 Growth Hub is hosting a major conference during Mental Health Awareness Week (14-20 May 2018) that will highlight and promote a healthy culture of wellbeing as a key driver for business growth.

The ‘Building Resilience and Wellbeing for Growth’ conference takes place on 16 May at The Riverside Centre in Derby and is a free to attend event for business leaders in the D2N2 area (Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire).

Stress, anxiety and depression within the workplace are at the highest levels ever recorded. According to the Labour Force Survey (LFS), in 2016, 45% of all reported absenteeism was accounted to stress. This is now costing UK businesses over £2.4 billion a year (UK Statistics Authority).

The conference will look at all aspects of wellbeing from HR support to enabling leaders to drive a ‘wellbeing culture’ for business growth and employee satisfaction, which will ultimately improve employee retention.

All of the guest speakers have a passion for organisational and personal wellbeing and bring along their wealth of knowledge and experience from the private and public sectors, the academic arena and the wellbeing industry.

Chris Pook, D2N2 Growth Hub Manager said:

“There is still a lot of taboo around discussing personal wellbeing and a recent survey suggests that many employers lack systems to recognise and address mental health at work.

“We want to bring these discussions out into the open and share some of the tools that can help managers and business leaders build a resilient workforce to improve personal and organisational wellbeing.”

Workshop topics and speakers will include:

Wellbeing – The Rolls-Royce journey to date
David Roomes, Group Director – Health, Safety, Sustainability & Environment and Chief Medical Officer at Rolls Royce

What do we mean by wellbeing?
Professor Gareth Hughes - Lecturer, Psychotherapist and Research Lead – Student Wellbeing - University of Derby
