Brave Dave Chips In for Charity Fundraiser

It’s a case of wax on, wax off at The Elite Fish & Chip Company, where a loyal customer is raising money by gritting his teeth for charity.

Dave Hyde, whose wife Emma is Duty Manager at the Elite’s restaurant in Sleaford, has volunteered to have a chest wax in aid of the three charities that the Elite Fish & Chip Company is raising £30,000 for this year. This includes the RAF Wings Appeal, the RNLI and Sleaford Dementia Support.

Dave, who has worked in the RAF and is currently away working for BAE Systems in Saudi Arabia, has agreed to the body hair removal treatment which will be carried out by Kelly McConnell of Look Luscious Hair and Beauty when he returns to his hometown of Sleaford during July.

He said: “As a former member of the RAF, I was thrilled to hear that the Elite would be supporting the RAF Wings Appeal as one of its charities of 2018. It’s a charity close to my heart and I wanted to do something that would give people a reason to donate – it’s not every day as a man that you get your chest waxed. I’ve had it done once before, but I had to ask them to give me a break halfway through as it was so painful!

“As long as we raise some funds for charity, I’m happy. Hopefully my fellow forces colleagues will dig as deep as the Elite customers always do!”

Rachel Tweedale, Director at The Elite Fish & Chip Company, said: “We might be a family-run business but that never stops our dedicated team from getting stuck in when it comes to supporting charities.

“It’s thanks to the generosity of our customers and staff that we were able to raise £10,000 in just ten months for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in 2016.

“2018 is a big year for our business as we’re celebrating 30 wonderful years since opening our first shop in Ruskington, near Sleaford. As part of the celebrations we’re aiming to raise £30,000 which is to be split equally between three charities. Our fundraising target is three times as big this year, so we’ve really got to triple our efforts. It’s great to see our staff and their families are already getting involved!”

Customers can donate at the Sleaford restaurant until 28th July, when Dave will be having the chest wax carried out in front of the restaurant.
