US BOXING LEGEND ROY JONES JR. TO SPEAK AT EXCLUSIVE CHARITY DINNER

A FORMER undisputed six-weight boxing world champion is heading to Nottingham for a fundraising dinner in aid of one of the city’s biggest charities.

Roy Jones Jr, will be the star attraction at the event, which will raise money for the Nottingham School of Boxing.

Held on 26 May at the Nottingham Belfry, the event will see the former champion tell stories of his legendary in-ring successes - including 66 wins and 47 knockouts – which have contributed to the American fighter being regarded as one of the greatest pound-for-pound boxers of all-time.

Proceeds from the evening will go towards funding the school, which was founded by BBC Sports Unsung Hero Marcellus Baz and was set up to help young people across the city build confidence, tolerance, discipline, respect and self-esteem.

Baz said:

“’An Evening with Roy Jones Jr’ promises to be a unique event which will give those attending the chance to hear first-hand about some of Roy’s biggest and most memorable fights – all while raising funds for a project which is providing a vital outlet for the young people of Nottingham.

“All attendees will get a top-class three course meal with their ticket and those opting for the Gold or Silver package will get a photo with Roy, which is a chance not to be missed.”

The event will be compered by Sky Sports’ boxing expert Johnny Nelson, himself a former world champion and a patron of the Marcellus Baz Group, which also includes the Switch Up charity.

Michael Lawless, who is jointly promoting the event on behalf of the Marcellus Baz Group, Midas Events and Goldstar Promotions, said:

“We’re delighted that Goldstar Promotions are bringing Roy Jones Jr to Nottingham for this fantastic event, giving us an opportunity which promises to raise a lot of money for a worthy cause.”

Michael added:

“The work Baz and his team do in Nottingham is nothing short of incredible, and this event is a great opportunity for people to hear from a boxing legend while supporting a great charity in the process.”

Tickets for the event are available at £99, with all proceeds going to the Nottingham School of Boxing.  For more information of ticketing, please contact Tom Snee on 0115 853 2110.
