Purpose Media backs new grassroots football club with £100,000 of support

Full-service marketing agency Purpose Media has thrown its weight behind a new grassroots football club’s ambitious plans to create a new £2m state-of-the-art community sports facility.

As part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility, the Derbyshire firm is backing new club Sleetmoor Untied with £100,000 worth of business and marketing support over the next three years free of charge, to help it bring its ambitious plans to fruition.

Sleetmoor United brings together ADASC FC, GFC Alfreton Town Girls and Ladies and Leabrooks Juniors FC into a single club, with a vision to establish one of the premier grassroots football facilities in the East Midlands.

With 37 individual teams spanning a full range of age groups, plus a nursery system, the new club has the size and scale to provide football to the community for years to come.

Working with a range of funding partners including the Football Foundation, the FA, local authorities and a wide range of third parties from business and the community, Purpose Media will help the club to raise the £2m it needs to fund the plans.

It has already secured funding pledges of £1m. The cash will be invested in revamping the existing facilities at Sleetmoor Lane Sports Ground, in Alfreton, to comprise:

  • A floodlit, all-weather (3G) pitch
  • A state-of-the-art clubhouse facility
  • Drainage for the remaining 6 pitches
  • Improved site security and car-parking
  • Better grass playing surfaces
  • An option to secure the land for the long-term

Purpose Media has created a new brand and logo for the club and is currently developing its new website and created several videos.

Its Managing Director, Matt Wheatcroft, coaches two Sleetmoor United teams as well as Derby County Ladies FC and is the driving force behind the new venture, serving on the Sleetmoor United committee as Chairman of the new club driving the plans forward.

He said:

“We’re passionate about sport here at Purpose Media and as a long-standing supporter of local grassroots football, we’re delighted to be lending our full support to Sleetmoor United to help it make its plans a reality.

“From a business and a personal point of view, this is about giving something back to the community and proving how well a grassroots sports club can be run. Once we’ve proved the model, we will be happy to share it with other grassroots sports clubs.

“We’ll be lending our creative and business expertise to help the new club to raise its profile, engage with business and community partners, identify and create additional revenue streams and put the infrastructure, accounting processes and best practice from a business point of view in place to enable it to run on a sound commercial footing.

“Purpose Media works with a growing number of professional sports clubs and will bring those services, skills and expertise learning into grassroots. At the same time, we would like to demonstrate to other professional sports clubs how they could up their game by showing what a grassroots club can achieve with a little know-how and hard work.

“Sleetmoor United has the potential to become a standard bearer for grassroots football in the East Midlands and beyond and I hope as many local businesses as possible will get behind the cause and help us build a community-based football club which offers opportunities to all, and a state-of-the-art sports and social facility of which the whole community can be proud.”
