Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

Gelder Group launches its Vision 2020 mission

Multi-award-winning construction company Gelder Group has announced the launch of its Vision 2020 to continue its mission of improving the business and helping the community.

The Lincolnshire-based company’s new Vision, which it aims to complete by the end of 2020, encompasses four themes: building strong communities, embracing smart technology, being the company to work for, and enterprising in its approach to new development opportunities.

Developed by its staff, the Gelder Group’s Vision 2020 follows the successful completion of its Vision 2017, which was launched in 2014 by HRH the Princess Royal. Vision 2017 saw the company deliver 20 business and community-related goals over a three-year period to further strengthen its credentials as an investor in people, particularly the next generation, ensure a happy and satisfied workforce and be an active and positive force in the local community and its environment.

The first theme of its new Vision, ‘building strong communities’, will focus on supporting community initiatives, such as donating leftover building materials to community projects, sharing its expertise to help community projects reach completion and employing local people.

Gelder Group also plans to continue its work with young people to help bridge the industry skills gap by offering a thriving apprenticeship programme via the Construction Careers College in Gainsborough, attending career fairs and offering work experience to local schools as well as supporting the Virtual School in Lincoln – a programme where children from the surrounding area who are not in mainstream education can complete their studies whilst benefiting from employer engagement activities such as work experience.

The second theme, ‘embracing smart technology’, will see Gelder Group invest in the latest technology and computer software to improve the customer experience, while the third theme, ‘being the company to work for’, will focus on the development and support of its staff to deliver an unparalleled working environment. As part of this theme, Gelder Group intends to introduce a mentoring system to develop staff knowledge and confidence as well as create individual development plans for each member of staff.

The fourth and final theme of Gelder Group’s Vision 2020 is all about expansion and focusing on designing, planning, building developments and company growth.

Chief executive, Steve Gelder, said:

“The success of the last Vision was remarkable. It was often challenging, it tested our resilience and pushed us to reach our goals, even earning us the 2017 title of ‘Lincolnshire’s fastest growing business’.  We knew that to keep the momentum going and stay on this upward trajectory we needed to implement another Vision.

“We chose these themes for our Vision 2020 because we believe these are the areas we need to focus on to move the business forward and maintain our reputation as an ambitious and forward-thinking company.”

Gelder Group worked on its Vision 2017 with Lincoln-based Human Alchemy – a company that supports business leadership teams and individuals with business transformation – and is working with the company again on its new Vision.

Paul Barron from Human Alchemy said:

“We were privileged to work with Gelder Group through the 2017 vision and see the company grow and prosper. Vision 2020 will build on that success and create an ambitious and exciting place to work.”

Celebrating 30 years in business this year, Gelder Group has grown from a two-man building outfit to a team of 300 employees. It delivers construction projects across a range of sectors including education, health, retail, insurance, leisure, heritage and residential.
