Heathcotes to open new services in Nottinghamshire

Heathcotes Group will soon be opening two new residential care services in Newark which the company has developed in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council.

The two neighbouring buildings, Enright View and Enright Lodge, will employ 40 care staff to provide support for adults with learning disabilities, mental illness, autism and dual diagnoses or associated complex needs. The services have been designed to support the council’s Transforming Care plans with a bespoke community provision comprising eight bedrooms within a shared environment alongside five self-contained apartments. Previously NHS-owned rehabilitation centres which closed in 2014, the vacant properties have been have comprehensively refurbished to create 640 square metres of high-specification accommodation.

Heathcotes Head of Commissioning, Natalia Lysiuk said:

“Heathcotes’ accommodation is usually designed exclusively by our in-house architectural consultancy, JDS Design, but for this particular project we also incorporated substantial design and specification input from care professionals at Nottinghamshire County Council as part of an extensive consultation process. We are delighted with the results and I think that Enright View and Enright Lodge demonstrate the value of care providers working closely with local authorities to develop services like these. We have established a care model which will support service users to improve their daily living skills and independence whilst reducing the level and frequency of challenging behaviours in a specialist environment. The services teams are trained in Non Abusive Physical and Psychological Interventions, a practice which helps to maintain a positive influence on service users and minimise the level and frequency of challenging behaviour.

“Our environment seeks to enable greater community integration and social inclusion, resulting in improved aspirations and a better quality of life.  The objectives are closely aligned with the government’s Transforming Care agenda, which aims to reduce the number of people placed in a hospital setting by helping them to achieve a transition to a more independent life in the community.”

Enright View and Enright Lodge were refurbished by contractors, John Ryan Developments Ltd, to provide a homely feel. Each building includes en-suite bedrooms with access to communal lounges, kitchen/dining room, shared bathroom and large garden area. The accommodation also includes five self-contained apartments each with bedroom, bathroom, living space and kitchen area for service users who may not be able to live with others but require intense support in a spacious and adapted environment. The properties are situated in a residential area which is close to a wealth of community facilities and enjoys easy access to Nottingham city centre where there are many opportunities for socialising and education.
