Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

A Derbyshire construction worker has been promoted to Senior Site Manager in recognition of her hard work at David Wilson Homes’ new site in Mickleover.

Zoe Rawlings, 36, joined the five star housebuilder 12 years ago as an assistant site manager and has worked her way up to being a site manager after four years with the division.

She was originally attracted to the industry because of the opportunity to work outdoors in a challenging environment.

Zoe is responsible for the day to day running of the site as well as now taking on personal development reviews for her team. Last year she was given an NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award.

She said:

“Being promoted has given me a great sense of achievement and I feel appreciated for my efforts.

“During my time in the industry I have seen more and more women come in to the profession and David Wilson Homes encourages this by treating everyone equally regardless of their gender.

“For women looking to join the construction industry I would advise them to treat everybody on site as they would expect to be treated. This is a tough job regardless of gender so they should be prepared to work hard.”

In celebration of International Women’s Day on Thursday 8th March, leading developer David Wilson Homes East Midlands is encouraging more women to consider careers in the construction industry, with a variety of roles available across Derbyshire.

John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said:

“We would like to congratulate Zoe on her recent promotion and thank her for her continued commitment to our new site in Mickleover.

“For International Women’s Day want to quash the age old stereotype that the construction industry is a male dominated field as we have many women who work out on site as well as in office based roles, with Zoe being a great example.

“With a range of departments within the company, we want to remind women that there are a variety of different roles that can be offered within the business that have great benefits and excellent opportunities for career progression.

“The construction industry is continuing to grow and this is an exciting time for people with an interest in housebuilding to join a market leading company.

“As one of the country’s top developers we are absolutely committed to developing raw talent and support our staff with training.”

There are many roles within each department, which includes: Construction, Technical, Commercial, Planning, Land, Finance and Sales.
