FORMER BOMB DISPOSAL EXPERT JOINS METAL RAILINGS MANUFACTURER

The latest new recruit at metal railings and gates manufacturer Alpha Rail will be utilising the skills learned during his military career bring a new perspective to his new role as a site operative.

William Mayes, known as Billy is a former bomb disposal engineer in the British Army. Whilst it’s a while since he left the army in 2006 Billy hopes that the trouble shooting skills he learned in the forces will be put to good use visiting sites where Alpha Rail installations are taking place to ensure all is running smoothly.

Since leaving the Army, where he gained BSc Explosives from Cambridge University, Billy has retrained in order to work in the charity sector supporting the homeless and those with addiction issues. He has a Post Graduate Certificate in Drug Treatment from Nottingham University, and MSc Youth Development from Surrey University and graduateship from the City & Guilds Institute in Youth Development.

Commenting on his new role, Billy said, “I have always enjoyed new challenges and the role at Alpha Rail will enable me to combine all my transferable skills for the benefit of Alpha Rail and its customers.”

Phil Ball, Sales Director added, “We take pride in the quality of our finished project and employing Billy to carry out site inspections before, during and after metal railings, gates and pedestrian guardrail has been installed is yet another step towards ensuring we meet and surpass customer expectations.”

Billy lives in Warsop and in his spare time enjoys boxing, mixed martial arts and playing computer games with his two sons aged 10 and 4. When he worked for homeless charity Framework, he completed a sleep out to raise money and raise awareness of homelessness.
