PUPILS LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER AT BARRATT HOMES’ STORYTELLING EVENT

Stories were brought to life in front of the eyes of pupils from Heathcote Primary School thanks to a storytelling event organised by Barratt Homes.

The five-star housebuilder, whose Warwick Gates development is next to the school, organised for a storyteller to visit the pupils to mark National Storytelling Week.

Professional storyteller Richard York, a member of the Society for Storytelling, spent the day at the brand new primary school in Heathcote telling stories to the pupils and engaging them in the literature.

Lara Jeffries, Headteacher at Heathcote Primary School, said “We believe exposure to stories of all types really helps to develop writing skills in our pupils.

“This opportunity was a great way to link in with their fairy tale topic and the children loved it! Working alongside the community is vital for us as a new school and we hope to continue this productive relationship. A big thanks to Barratt Homes.”

The awareness week runs from 27th January to 3rd February and aims to unite both children and adults in the customary pastime of storytelling.

The children learned how oral storytelling has allowed stories to survive and evolve over thousands of years, and across continents.

Jan Ruston, Sales Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “Getting involved with events such as National Storytelling Week and working closely with a local primary school gives Barratt Homes the opportunity to make a difference in the community.

“As our Warwick Gates development is so close to the primary school we thought this would be a great chance to get behind an event that promotes skills such as reading, writing, listening and creativity.

“Richard’s stories really captivated the pupils at Heathcote Primary School and it was a pleasure to be able to arrange this event for the school.”

Richard York said afterwards that it was a pleasure to work in Heathcote Primary School with the pupils and teachers.

He said: “Our National Storytelling Week is now copied internationally as more people realise the importance of live oral storytelling, for its ability to build communities, to provide a safe place to explore experiences, as well as its sheer entertainment value.

“I'm most grateful to Barratt Homes for making this opportunity for the children of Heathcote Primary School to be part of it. And it's always a pleasure to see not just the children, but the adults with them, getting so involved in really concentrating on listening both to stories and live music.”

Warwick Gates currently has a selection of two, three and four bedroom homes available to reserve with prices starting from £254,995.
