Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

A Cut Above the Competition - West Bridgford Salon named Saks ‘Salon of the Year’.

Celebrations as Saks West Bridgford is recognised for its commitment to staff, training and development and delivering excellent service to its clients.

Staff and clients at a popular West Bridgford hair and beauty salon are celebrating after being named Salon of the Year.

Having had her eyes set on being named as Saks Salon of the Year for some time, Michelle Shergill, salon owner, is on cloud nine having received the top accolade in front of the hair and beauty industry’s glitterati who had gathered at the Hilton Metropole in London to showcase and reward the company’s talent.

Added to this, Amy Warren, salon manager, was one of the finalists in the Saks Advanced Therapists category making it a double celebration for the West Bridgford team.

Endorsement of the salon’s philosophy

A delighted Michelle who has owned and managed the salon since 2007, took to the stage with her high achieving team to receive the award, cheered on by more than 1000 Saks personnel who had travelled from all corners of the U.K. to share the successes, to rub shoulders with industry leaders, network with colleagues and to enjoy a great party.

Reflecting on her success Michelle had this to say: “Receiving this award is a great endorsement of our salon’s philosophy which is about delivering a special, individual experience for clients through the hands of expert hair and beauty professionals. It’s also about inspiring the staff to be the best they can be, providing the highest quality of standards and service with great products. This achievement reflects the fantastic team we have at the salon and I’m very grateful for their contribution to our salon’s success.”

Michelle ‘s talents are well known within the company having been an adviser within Saks for some years. Her very successful decade as a franchise owner, means that her expertise is much sought after by Saks, involving her in mentoring and advising new start-ups and driving the business development of other salons. She also helps the company find the next treatment for the Saks brand so that it stands out from the competition. Last year’s investment in 3D Lipo has been a huge success.

This contribution to promoting the Saks brand was just one factor when it came to the judging. Ultimately it was her ongoing drive and passion to achieve the highest standards at her own West Bridgford salon, located within David Lloyd, which helped Michelle achieve the ultimate accolade at the awards ceremony.

Combining Business Development with Client Experience

Each entrant for the category of Hair and Beauty Salon of the Year was judged on the performance of their business over the past 12 months based on evidence submitted throughout the year. Michelle’s impressive record of strategies used to develop the business and to ensure the best experience for her clients was far reaching.

Realising the importance of developing a great team to deliver top quality services for clients, Michelle demonstrated the value she places on the professional development of her staff and the steps she takes to ensure their knowledge and technical skills are up to date, that they are motivated and rewarded for their contribution to driving the business forward.

With training in 2017 focusing on the newly launched Saks Signature Colour Service, the new Neck Lift 3D Lipo treatment and projects with a treatment and body focus, (just to mention a few!) Michelle and her team are working hard to bring the very best hair and beauty treatments to West Bridgford to provide her clients with the most effective hair and beauty experiences. With in-house workshops and external courses provided by suppliers such as Decleor and L’Oreal, Michelle ensures that all services at the salon are of top quality.

Staff Development

Meanwhile, her staff are thriving under her expert guidance and support and the excellent training opportunities provided. Taking care of her team is Michelle’s priority so after all the training there’s a host of rewards and treats for them such as the employee of the month award and gifts for top performers.

Michelle also treated her staff with a trip to Portugal as a way of saying a huge ‘thank-you’ to the team for a great 2016. It’s no surprise that with all these training opportunities and motivational strategies in place Michelle has been shortlisted for the Professional Beauty Awards Employer of The Year 2018.

Hannah Jones of the salon’ hair team comments: “We are all so pleased to receive the award of Top Salon.  Michelle’s a fantastic boss to work for and a wonderful role model for us all. It’s great to see her energy and enthusiasm for the continuous improvement of the business and her support of Saks U.K. acknowledged with this top award.”

Michelle adds: “I would like to thank our very loyal clients who have become part of the Saks West Bridgford family. Not only do they invest in our treatments and provide recommendations, they also ensure the success of the many charity events which we hold, such as the Eve Appeal, a charity raising awareness and funding research into gynaecological cancers. We’re very fortunate to have such a great extended family.”
