LOGISTICS FIRM NAMED ‘FASTEST GROWING COMPANY’ IN NOTTS

LOGISTICS firm Baxter Freight has been named as the fastest growing mid-sized company in Nottinghamshire.

The business, based in Lenton, Nottingham, has topped BDO’s Nottinghamshire Growth Barometer list – which measures turnover growth of mid-sized firms in the county and identifies the fastest growing 50 – after increasing turnover by an average of 306% over the last three years.

Baxter Freight was set up in 2014 by Ian Baxter, Peter Isler and Steve Rafferty and now employs 60 people. It has daily services covering all the main commercial centres in continental Europe and the Nordic region, as well as thriving domestic and overseas divisions.

Ian, founder and chairman of Baxter Freight, said: “It is great to be recognised for this achievement, which is testament to the hard work and commitment of our 60-strong team. Our projections show that rapid growth is likely to continue for the foreseeable future as we build Baxter Freight into a market-leading international logistics partner based here in Nottingham.

“We literally started in my living room with nothing. We had no people, no computers, no premises, no customers and no suppliers. It’s not easy to bring a business out of the ground overnight – as well as building up our suite of products we needed to get out there to find people who needed our services.”

As well as hiring experienced people to run the business and work in HR, IT and operations, Baxter Freight started out by employing people new to the freight industry with the aim of developing them into fully-fledged account managers.

Ian said: “We’ve developed a brilliant team in a very short space of time and I believe we have kept them happy in their roles by making Baxter Freight a great community and a fun place to work. I like to think we are a flexible employer that understands the ups and downs people face in everyday life.”

Baxter Freight looks set to be handling around 70,000 shipments this year after recently signing a major new partnership in the Nordic region. Turnover is also expected to increase from £13 million to £18 million.
