Derbyshire firm names Rainbows as its charity of 2018

Derbyshire firm Awbery has unveiled details of a 12-month packed programme of fundraising events and activities that will raise valuable funds for its chosen charity for 2018, Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.

Each year, Awbery chooses one charity that will benefit from its team’s busy fundraising calendar, and for 2018 has selected Rainbows, the East Midlands’ only hospice for life-limited children and young adults, because of the invaluable, specialist support it provides, as Mary Sisson, Director at the firm, explains:

“When deciding Charity of the Year for Awbery, we get input from the whole head office team. Two of the team voted for Rainbows - I respite cared for a little girl for five years who benefited from the service Rainbows provides, and one of our programme co-ordinators already does charity runs for the charity. We were all in agreement. It is such a worthy cause!”

Rainbows supports families from Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Rutland and Northamptonshire. It is currently caring for 395 children and young people and 378 bereaved families, as well as providing some form of care to almost 1,200 family members, from mums and dads, to brothers and sisters.

Commenting on Rainbows being chosen by Awbery as its charity of 2018, Tom Stanyard, Corporate Partnership Fundraiser, said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen as Awbery’s charity partner for 2018 and look forward to working with their teams across the year on their fundraising plans. Rainbows receives only a little funding from the government each year, so partnerships like this are absolutely crucial in enabling us to continue caring for life-limited babies, children and young people from across the East Midlands.”

Last year, Awbery chose the care and research charity for people with dementia and their carers, Alzheimer’s Society, as its sole beneficiary in 2017, and through numerous activities, raised £881.68, smashing its £500 target.
