LOCAL HOMEBUILDER TAKES ON THREE NEW APPRENTICES IN LEICESTERSHIRE

Taylor Vendyback, Harry Scott and Charlie Wye have begun their apprenticeships with the Bardon-based developer, in the hope of establishing successful careers in the building trade.

Taylor, 16, is on the Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying course, which allows him to learn the practical side of construction at the Forest Chase site in Leicester Forest East while studying at South Leicestershire College once a week.

Seeing an apprenticeship as a good way to progress a career, Taylor was recommended to the scheme by his uncle, a labourer for David Wilson Homes East Midlands. Taylor’s mother is also a David Wilson Homes customer, having bought a home with the developer two years ago.

Taylor, from Leicester Forest East, said:

“I enjoy being on site, whatever the weather. It’s never boring, there’s always something different to do and I can walk round the corner to work.

“I’d like to complete all three levels of my course if I can, qualify as a bricklayer and own my own business one day.”

Also joining the David Wilson Homes team is Harry Scott, 17, an apprentice joiner on a Level 2 NVQ course with a block release at Stephenson College in Coalville.

Being based at the homebuilder’s Abbots View site in Coalville has enabled Harry to experience houses being developed first hand while broadening his understanding of construction.

Harry, from Whitwick, said:

“David Wilson Homes is the best homebuilding company there is and I want to be the best at my trade, so to be the best you need to work with the best.

“Being good enough at my trade to slowly ease into working more independently on site is what I’m looking forward to most.

“In the future I’d like to be a successful joiner turned site manager for David Wilson Homes.”

David Wilson Homes East Midlands’ third new apprentice is Charlie, 16, who is working towards his Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying.

Expressing his desire to work for a well-known company, Charlie has been given the opportunity to learn the practical trade at David Wilson Homes’ New Lubbesthorpe development in Leicester, whilst studying one day a week at South Wigston College.

Charlie, from Leicester Forest East, said:

“I enjoy working on site, learning the trade and working with the people around me.

“I am looking forward to progressing within the building trade and I would like to make a career out of becoming a qualified bricklayer.”

John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Taylor, Harry and Charlie to the team and wish them the best of luck in their careers with us.

“As a leading housebuilder in Leicestershire, we pride ourselves on not only providing a first-class service for our customers, but also ensuring we look after our staff and provide opportunities to progress within the company and achieve their ambitions.

“As a division, we have exciting growth plans in place for the years ahead and now is a fantastic time to be joining the company and actively supporting this further development.”
