The CSR and Environment award was judged on a business’s ability to demonstrate their commitment to the ‘triple bottom line’, focusing their impacts on ‘people, planet and profit’.

Companies had to show details of their policies, demonstrate how these are achievable, and finally explain the benefits of the CSR and Environmental policies to employees, the business, and/or the local community.

According to the judges, “Shed stood out by demonstrating a clear plan of their policies and procedures which have a direct impact on their team, customers and the environment. This has resulted in numerous accreditations being awarded for their hard work.”

Delighted with winning the award director Nicky Botham commented, “We feel this is well-deserved recognition for our efforts and great news for our team. This award recognises the importance of the environment and people to our business. We are committed to continuously improving our practices and our team have been striving hard over the past few years to ensure that we live and breathe our mantra of ‘Reduce / Re-Use / Recycle’.

“We have also embarked on a number of schemes to support and develop young people to have a career in the horticulture industry. It is fantastic that our efforts have been recognised and rewarded and we see this as a testament both to the value of our own efforts and to the importance of the trend toward greater responsibility.”

Shed has continuously strived to exceed in this particular area, exhibited by their commitment to their ISO9001 and ISO14001 UKAS accreditations. In fact, their procedures were judged to be so effective that the company was able to transition from the old 2008 standards to the new 2015 standards 18 months ahead of the transition deadline. Shed has also featured in both promotional literature and videos for their awarding body the British Standards Institute as an example for other companies to follow.

Shed Grounds Maintenance Ltd is based in Chesterfield and was established in 2003. It now offers commercial grounds and exterior maintenance packages for businesses on a national basis.
