Ashiana Indian Restaurant near Newark wins two national food awards

The Ashiana Indian Restaurant near Newark won an unprecedented two awards at the prestigious Curry Life Awards on 22nd October.

King of Curries with two awards

The popular Indian restaurant at North Muskham near Newark went home with the restaurant award for Best in Nottinghamshire 2017 and Best Takeaway of the Year 2017 for the recently opened Ashiana Curry Lounge at Long Bennington in Lincolnshire.

Collecting the award on behalf of the restaurant and takeaway, owner of the Ashiana, Saiqul Miah said:

“We genuinely didn’t think we had a chance of winning anything when we saw who the other award nominees were.

“But we were stunned when we were announced as winners of not just one award, but actually two!”

“An entrepreneur in the Indian restaurant business”

No other restaurant won more than one award on the night, leading host Michael Buerk to describe Saiqul as: “An entrepreneur in the Indian restaurant business,” for opening an award-winning takeaway in addition to his already successful Indian restaurant.

Sai continued:

“At the Ashiana, my Head Chef Shimul Ahmed and the service team always work so hard to deliver an authentic and contemporary Indian dining experience using only the freshest ingredients.

“However, we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for our wonderful customers nominating us. These awards acknowledge all the efforts of my Chefs and the service teams at both the restaurant and takeaway. We’re all delighted that our customers enjoyed themselves so much that they wanted to nominate us for the Curry Life awards.”

The glittering awards ceremony was held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, hosted by broadcaster Michael Buerk and attracted Indian food industry luminaries, such as Lord Karan Bilimoria, Chairman of Cobra Beer, Syed Belal Ahmed, whose magazine, Curry Life sponsors the awards and Graham Corfield, Managing Director of Just Eat, key sponsor of the event. Labour MPs Sir Kier Starmer and Rushanara Ali also congratulated the winners at the Ashiana.

The Curry Life Awards celebrate and honour the Curry Industry’s standout professionals and is an opportunity to shine a light on those who have shown outstanding performance and achievement in the trade and culinary excellence.
