Document Network Services announce GDPR Awareness Workshops

With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into effect on 25th May 2018, Derby based firm Document Network Services are giving businesses the opportunity to learn about technology that could help to achieve compliance with the new legislation by delivering a number of GDPR Awareness Workshops.

The European General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) is Europe’s new framework for data protection laws and will replace the previous 1995 Data Protection Directive. The new regulation has been introduced by the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission to update and strengthen data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU).

Its provisions in the UK will be covered by a new Data Protection Bill which replaces the current UK legislation (Data Protection Act 1998) and defines how personal data can be used by companies, the government and other organisations.

The new legislation will make businesses more accountable for the data they process. The data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), will have greater powers to defend consumer interests and will be able to issue fines of up to £17 million or 4 per cent of global turnover in cases of serious data breaches.

Document Network Services support the aims of the Data Protection Bill that implements GDPR in full and are committed to helping the wider business community achieve compliance with the new regulations before the 25th May 2018.

The GDPR Awareness Workshops will take place weekly at the DNS Innovation Centre in Pride Park, Derby, between November and December 2017. Each workshop will cover a number of topics including: user authentication, anti-virus protection, secure print release, email filtering and document management, whilst providing an opportunity to look at some of the latest and most innovative technology available.
