With 22 employees aged under 30 at its two factories on Wetmore Lane and Nicolson Way in Burton-on-Trent, Russells, which manufactures concrete roof tiles and accessories, wants to encourage more young people into the industry by providing a beneficial service to the community.

The firm’s leading industry experts are offering schools and students the opportunity to learn about the benefits and different career routes on offer within the industry such as accountancy, sales, engineering and admin, through a dedicated talk, presentation and videos.

Russells is delighted to have already seen schools within Burton jump at the chance to have an expert come and speak to its young students with Paget High School on Burton Road being the first to benefit from the visits. Year 11 students were able to gain invaluable advice and hear about the exciting opportunities available at Russell Roof Tiles.

Dan Hancox, Assistant Operations Support Manager at Russell Roof Tiles said: “It was a great experience being asked to give a careers talk to a group of such enthusiastic students who clearly have a lot of potential.

“The visit was a resounding success with plenty of questions and interest. I hope to have inspired a future generation and to have given them the belief that there really are great career opportunities within the manufacturing industry if they have the right attitude and desire to succeed.”

Mrs Theresa Brown, Head of Year 11 at Paget High School added: “We would like to thank Russell Roof Tiles for coming into Paget High School to talk to our students. All the students enjoyed it immensely, learned a lot and were inspired by it.”

The school visits are part of a wider initiative by Russells to promote manufacturing roles within the construction industry as a viable career option with apprenticeships, an annual bursary and recruitment open days already being offered by the firm. Last year, Russells also opened a training centre to help build skills and nuture talent.

Andrew Hayward, Managing Director at Russell Roof Tiles said: “At Russells, we understand the importance of investing our time and money in young people and strengthening their skills and careers.

“We have already seen a few schools sign up for our school talks but we want to encourage more schools to do so as this will ensure that as many young people as possible can benefit from these visits.”
