Europa Gears up to Double in Size in Nottingham

Leading independent logistics operator Europa Worldwide Group has strengthened its base in the Midlands by investing in a new, larger office for the business to grow in to in Nottingham.

Europa has quickly outgrown its former Nottingham office, at the Civic Centre on Pavilion Road, West Bridgford, following MD Andrew Baxter’s acquisition of the business. Since the acquisition in 2013, the business has almost doubled its turnover - which is now nearing £145m - and has increased staff numbers from 485 to 650 through a targeted and strategic growth plan.

The business is split into four distinct divisions for Road, Warehouse, Air & Sea and Showfreight and has 11 Road branches across the UK. The Nottingham branch currently employs seven people who work for customers across a broad range of sectors and geographic areas, from blue chip customers to retail giants.

HR director at Europa Carl Potter said the new Nottingham office, in Colwick, would provide space for more than twice the amount of staff the old office could accommodate with a 10 year lease on the 1,250 sq ft space.

He said:

“Our previous site in Nottingham no longer had the space to meet the requirements of our growing team and so it became a priority for us to find a larger serviced office. We picked the site in Colwick Quays because it met all of our requirements and now that we have had it fully refurbished it will be big enough for up to 17 staff.

“We strongly believe in investing in our teams – both through training and through providing them with high quality work spaces – because we know this creates a happy workforce. The Nottingham team is thrilled to be moving to an office which fits their ambitions and we’re looking forward to seeing them continue their impressive track record of growth in their new home.”

Sales Director at Europa Dionne Redpath added that taking up a bigger space in Nottingham serves to further establish Europa’s long term presence in the region. She said:

“Everyone knows that the East Midlands and particularly Nottingham is very dear to us and it’s great to be setting down anchor in our heartland. We aim to continue developing our Nottingham team apace and the working environment, location and experienced team will push that along quickly.”

Managing Director at Europa Andrew Baxter, who was previously a joint owner of Nottingham family business RH Freight, has bold plans for Europa. Following the sale of RH Freight to Kuehne + Nagel, Andrew acquired Europa in 2013 and immediately initiated a front-end restructuring of the business, building turnover to a projected £145m this year with a current goal of hitting the £200m mark by the end of 2018.

He said:

“Our new Nottingham office is another indicator that we are on the right track with our plans for expansion. We recently announced our decision to set out on the acquisition trail following an established trend of 25 per cent organic growth across the business and strong regional branches continue to play a key part in cementing this success.

“Investing in our regional branches, through recruitment, training and improved facilities has always been part of our plan because we know that the commitment and dedication of our brilliant staff is the key to our success. Our new Nottingham office is set to be the source of even more good news and impressive achievements for the business, I have no doubt!”

Key milestones achieved by Europa in the last four years include launching its new £30m headquarters, 1hub, in Dartford, the creation and implementation of the business’ brand new, bespoke IT system Leonardo - an investment of more than £2m – the launch of many new products and daily lines, a fiercely competitive recruitment drive to attract the very best talent in the industry and a focus on developing all of the business’s international markets.

Europa Worldwide Group is a privately-owned operator which delivers air, sea, road and warehousing services, operating across 11 sites in the UK plus Hong Kong and is represented in 100 countries.
