Dream new start in the Peak District for David and Kathryn

A Crich couple are encouraging homeowners who want to make their next move to consider using the government-backed Help to Buy scheme, after it helped them secure a brand new luxury home in the Peak District in time for the arrival of their first child.

David Allen, who works in sales, and his wife Kathryn, a medical professional, are now the proud owners of an elegant four-bedroom ‘Salcombe’ style home at Harron Homes’ exclusive Devonshire Gardens development in Crich.

Three years previously the couple, both 27, had purchased a newly built home in Coventry through Help to Buy.

With a baby on the way, they took the decision to relocate closer to David’s family in Derbyshire and find a property that would offer them more space.

They hadn’t realised initially that a Help to Buy Equity Loan could allow them to take their second step on the property ladder, but after visiting Devonshire Gardens, they made an application to use the scheme with the support of Harron Homes’ friendly on-site advisers.

David explained: “Having used this scheme before, we didn’t know that we could use it again. We appreciated the explanation, support and guidance we were offered by the team at Devonshire Gardens, which helped make our move become a reality and allowed us to get the financial aspect of it sorted out much more quickly.”

Purchasers using the Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme can secure a home with just a 5% deposit and a 75% mortgage. The remainder is covered by a government loan with no fees due for the first five years.

Having used the scheme to their advantage, the couple are now settling into their new home and exploring their surroundings – although David was somewhat familiar with Crich before they made their move.

He added: “I am originally from Taddington in the Peak District so I already knew the area and the village quite well and we felt this location was perfectly suited to us. I work in the East Midlands and Kathryn works in Birmingham, so the commute is relatively straightforward for both of us.

“We’re now closer to my relatives in the Peak District and also closer to Kathryn’s family in Cheshire, which was an important factor for us in finding our family home.

“We’ve got the additional space we were looking for here, and the design of the home itself is fabulous – you can see that a lot of thought has gone into it.

“We have a detached garage, an extra family room in addition to the living room, and an open-plan dining kitchen with a glass extension leading into the garden. It’s perfect for us because it’s a great space for entertaining family and friends now that we’re close enough to invite them round.

“I’d definitely recommend a Harron home to a friend or colleague. You know you’re getting a home with a well-planned design and their staff have been friendly and helpful throughout.

“With a new-build property you know your home will be cheap to run and you’re not going to be hit with a huge unexpected energy bill. You also have the peace of mind of a warranty should anything go wrong. You don’t necessarily have that security in an older home.”

Alison Taylor-Shaw, Sales Director at Harron Homes North Midlands, said: “It’s wonderful that David and Kathryn have had the chance to make their move and settle into their new home in time for their baby’s arrival. We’re all very excited for them.

“David and Kathryn bought a Salcombe style home, which is the same design as one of our two show homes at Devonshire Gardens. If you’re in a similar situation and you’re looking for a spacious and modern family home, we’d encourage you to take a show home tour. Visit us at our on-site marketing suite between 10.30am and 5.30pm, Thursday to Monday

“We have experts in the government’s Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme on hand, who will be more than happy to talk potential buyers through the process. As David and Kathryn demonstrate, you don’t need to be a first-time buyer to qualify – although you do need to be buying a newly-built home.”
