Being awarded for supporting the Armed Forces community in Derbyshire

A residential home in Derbyshire has joined four other local organisations in receiving an award for supporting Defence personnel.

The Limes Residential Home in Mickleover, Derbyshire Constabulary, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Chemring Defence UK in Derby and Warwick I C Systems Ltd in Ilkeston have each been awarded a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award for supporting Armed Forces personnel and their families in the workplace.

In order to achieve a Silver Award employers must have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, employ at least one member of Armed Forces community, actively communicate with their employees via established HR policies and procedures and show flexibility towards annual training commitments and mobilisation.

The Limes Residential Home currently employs one Royal Air Force reservist, and the residents always enjoy asking her what her latest training has involved or where she may be traveling to next as part of her duties.

Julie Woodhouse, Registered Care Manager, at The Limes, said: “My daughter Jess works as an administrator at The Limes and is currently our only reservist. The residents and their relatives are always interested to learn more about her progress in the reserves and follow what training she is completing closely.

“As an organisation we have previously organised events to support Armed Forces Day and last year held an event to talk about the Armed Forces and provoke old memories the residents could remember fondly. We are thrilled to receive the award and plan to display it proudly in our reception area.”

Catherine Suckling, Assistant Regional Employer Engagement Director, said: “It is important to recognise the commitment of each of the employers from Derbyshire and the wider East Midlands in supporting Service personnel and their spouses, veterans or Cadet Force adult volunteers in the workplace.

“Each organisation recognises the valuable skills and experience that those undertaking military training can bring back into the workplace. I am delighted that each of the organisations have been recognised for the positive work and I look forward to continuing to build our relationship over future months.”

Each of the organisations will be invited to a formal presentation event in November where they will receive a certificate to be displayed in their place of
work.
