Customers are Buzzing about Packaging Firm’s Fuse Division

A global packaging firm which is based in Nottingham has attracted ‘huge market interest’ in its new Fuse division.

 The Wilkins Group, a family business based in Colwick, invested £600,000 in the new digital equipment earlier this year to branch into the luxury packaging sector and bosses say it is generating huge interest from big brands who are keen to see how it works.

 Justin Wilkins, sales and marketing director at The Wilkins Group, said: “Since installing the specialist digital foiling and varnishing machine at our Nottingham headquarters we have carried out a number of trials and tests.

 “It is now up and running with huge market interest from big named brands which are coming in to try it out for their new products. At least a dozen companies are actively working with us as a project and we have been approaching companies in the cosmetics, liquor, greeting card industry and luxury confectionery sectors.”

 The Wilkins Group has worldwide hubs in China, Sri Lanka, Romania, India and Bangladesh. Before Fuse was brought in the enhancement work was traditionally done in an analogue way which incurs quite high charges for origination.  This also meant that testing different ideas was not possible before but now can be done at the touch of a button with instant results.  

 Justin said: “There has been such a buzz around Fuse, customers who have seen it have been so impressed. Even if it doesn’t generate any business, which it will, it is getting people interested, showing them that we are the right company to work with and are at the forefront of the industry in terms of technology. It is doing wonders for us as a company.”

 The machine manufacturer has been hugely impressed with the way The Wilkins Group have been using Fuse.

 Nigel Tracey, head of packaging at the machine manufacturer, said: “Since the start of the project in 2016 it was clear to us that Wilkins has taken their decision to go into digital very seriously. They are one of only a few of the hundreds of our customers worldwide that branded their new product portfolio and gave it a specific identity.

 “If there’s one aspect though that surprised our team more than that it was the creativity and just how smartly Fuse use our technology in their folding carton designs. Some truly amazing new pieces have been created, like nothing else we have ever seen.”
