Travis Perkins PLC, Metcalf Commercial Decorators Ltd and Goodwill Solutions CIC between them employ a number of reservists and service leavers, and each value the skills and experiences those with military training can bring back into the workplace. In order to achieve a Silver Award, employers must have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, employ at least one member of Armed Forces community, actively communicate with their employees via established HR policies and procedures and show flexibility towards annual training commitments and mobilisation.

Travis Perkins PLC have actively recruited 200 service leavers since 2015 in roles spanning branch management, IT, supply chain and logistics. The company also became the 1,500th signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant in March this year.

Carol Kavanagh, Group HR Director at Travis Perkins, commented: “We’re incredibly proud to have been awarded the ERS Silver Award. We have long recognised the valuable skills, professionalism and dedication that service leavers can bring to our business and we’re committed to showing our ongoing support for the Defence community.”

Catherine Suckling, Assistant Regional Employer Engagement Director, said: “It is important to recognise the commitment of each of the employers from Northamptonshire and the wider East Midlands in supporting service personnel and their spouses, veterans or Cadet Force adult volunteers in the workplace.
“Each organisation recognises the valuable skills and experience that those undertaking military training can bring back into the workplace. I am delighted
that each of the businesses have been recognised for their positive work and I look forward to continuing to build our relationship over future months.”

Each of the companies will be invited to a formal presentation event in November where they will receive a certificate to be displayed in their place of work.
