TWO NOTTINGHAM STYLISTS TO JOIN THE INDUSTRY'S FINEST AT NATIONAL AWARDS FINAL KH Hair's double celebration at the British Hairdressing Awards 2017

KH Hair is celebrating after two of its top stylists made it through to the finals of the 'Oscars of the hairdressing world' - the British Hairdressing Awards.

Helen Stilwell, from KH Hair in Arnold, and Jessica Neil, who works at the West Bridgford salon, stood out from hundreds of entries to make it through in the Eastern Hairdresser of the Year category.

Now in their fourth decade, the awards, hosted by Hairdressers Journal International, and supported by Schwarzkopf Professional, continue to go from strength-to-strength in their aim to celebrate the most diverse and creative of talents in hairdressing. They have launched the careers of a host of household names: from TIGI founder Anthony Mascolo to TONI&GUY creative director Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck, as well as TV favourites Lisa Shepherd and Andrew Barton.

KH Hair Group Managing Director, Darren Messias, said: "These awards seek to celebrate the very best of British hairdressers, awarding them for their artistic flair and technical skill.  This is the second time in three years we have made it to the final and we are thrilled for Helen and Jessica who have worked so hard to put together some stunning creations.   My co-director Tim Fee and I wish them all the very best for the final in November."

Earlier this week, 75 judges, drawn from industry experts, global hairdressing icons, session stylists to the stars and creative leaders, viewed the UK’s biggest photographic award exhibition display before announcing the finalists in 16 categories.

Helen and Jessica are both leading members of KH Hair's Art Team and regularly involved in session work, shoots, and major industry shows. Commenting on their success, they said: "We are extremely proud to have been shortlisted for our region. We class the British hairdressing Awards one of the hardest competitions in the industry as we are up against some amazingly talented hairdressers so, to get this far, is a massive achievement."

Hairdressers Journal International’s Executive Director, Jayne Lewis Orr says: “The awards remain true to the original objective - to promote the professionalism and leading vision of British hairdressing and, importantly, to celebrate its contribution to the wider world.  I am so proud that we can see the impact the awards have had on, not only our own industry, but also upon partnership industries of model agencies, photographers, clothes stylists and make-up artists and its success is shared by many.

"This year more than ever, we encouraged entrants to produce work that is aspirational and wearable, to really unify the bonds between creative hairdressing and the fact that this industry contributes £7bn to the national economy and employs 500,000 nationwide.  Now that’s something amazing to celebrate!”

The Eastern Hairdresser of the Year category seeks to recognise the most inspiring stylists in the region, catapulting the finalists into the upper echelons of the nation’s very best hairdressing talent.

The winners of this and 15 other categories, including the prized British Hairdresser of the Year title, will be announced at The British Hairdressing Awards which will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Monday 27 November.
