Newby Castleman using the power of social media to support local cancer charity

Leading firm of chartered accountants, Newby Castleman, has thrown its support behind Leicestershire charity Hope Against Cancer, and is encouraging its Facebook fans and Twitter followers to do the same by donating 10p, at no cost to them, with the click of a button.

The firm, which has offices in Leicester and Loughborough, has set an ambitious target of 10,000 likes / retweets for its posts that launched today (Monday 10th July) linking to the Hope Against Cancer website, with the aim of increasing awareness of the charity’s work at the same time as it raises funds.

Founded by Allison Wilson CBE in 2003 shortly before she lost her battle with the disease, Hope Against Cancer aims to put into place her vision of Leicestershire and Rutland as a hub for research into cancer.

The charity works in partnership with local hospitals and universities, raising funds to attract leading academic minds to the area and providing a platform for world-class cancer research.

It has also made clinical trials available to cancer patients in the area. In 2012, the Cancer Clinical Trials Facility was opened at the Leicester Royal Infirmary – one of only a few units outside of London.

Newby Castleman nominated Hope Against Cancer as its Charity of the Year in November 2016, and since then has worked closely with the charity on fundraising ideas.

Nicola Cooper, Marketing Manager at Newby Castleman, explained:

“We are proud to be working with a charity that plays such a vital role in the fight against cancer right here in Leicestershire. Cancer research is a cause that is close to the hearts of a number of our staff and clients.

“We have been searching for a means of not only raising money for this wonderful cause, but also highlighting the work that the charity does locally using our connections within the business world.

“We have set a target of 10,000 likes / retweets for our posts, which we think is achievable – and if we reach it, not only will thousands of people across Leicestershire be made aware of the charity and its work, but we will also have raised an additional £1,000 to help fund that vital research.

“This is just one of a number of ways in which we are fundraising for Hope Against Cancer this year, including a bake off sale for their ChaiTea Bold and Blue Week, and we have a number of other events planned, so keep an eye on our social media feeds throughout the year ahead to find out how you can help us to support them further.”

CEO of Hope Against Cancer, Nigel Rose, said:

“It is great to have the support of local businesses, particularly an established firm such as Newby Castleman. Their support is vital in helping us achieve our goals of helping more people beat cancer and living longer. We look forward to working with them.”
