Inshredible! Shredding company uses birthday party to raise money for charity

July 2017 - Celebrations to mark Shredall SDS Group’s 20th year in business ended in extra cheers as guests generously donated to local charity Forever Stars.

The Nottingham-based information management firm recently held an event at Tom Browns Brasserie, Gunthorpe, for staff and customers to celebrate the company’s journey over the last two decades.

The firm, which started life in founder Lloyd Williams’ bedroom, helps companies adhere to the Data Protection Act by getting rid of their confidential waste. It also offers other records-management services, including document scanning and document storage.

More than 150 people attended the evening, including John McGovern, a former Nottingham Forest captain. After a glass of Sangria upon arrival, guests were treated to a BBQ buffet, live music and a game of bingo.

Money from ticket sales, bingo and on the night donations was all given to local charity Forever Stars, totalling £1,478. The charity was set up by Michelle and Richard Daniels following the loss of their baby daughter, Emily, in 2013, and has since raised enough funds to set up a family bereavement suite at the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC). A second bereavement suite, at Nottingham City Hospital, will be opened in October.

Lloyd Williams, who has recently assumed chairman position at the company, said:

“What a fantastic end to a fantastic evening. I’d like to thank everyone that attended on the night - you’ve all helped Shredall SDS Group become what it is today - and a special thank you to those who generously donated to our chosen charity, Forever Stars.

“Shredall SDS Group has already taken great strides this year to grow the business even further, with the launch of our new mail handling service in March, and we look forward to what the next 20 years bring!”

Richard Daniels added:

‘Michelle and I are overwhelmed by the fabulous support and amount raised by the Shredall SDS Group at their 20th anniversary party.  For a small charity like Forever Stars this level of corporate support from companies like Shredall SDS Group really helps the charity both in terms of raising money but also in terms of raising our profile.

“The money raised will be used to help fund our current project of building a bereavement suite at the City Hospital for parents who have had a stillborn baby or who have suffered early baby loss; to try and avoid bereaved parents having to go back to the labour ward after their loss. The suite is also designed to help bereaved parents and their wider family spend precious moments with their babies whilst in hospital creating what will be a lifetime of memories.  We hope that Lloyd and the Shredall SDS Group team come across to the City Hospital to see where their fundraising has been spent, when we open the new suite in October 2017.”

Twenty years after it was founded and Shredall SDS Group is continuing to go from strength-to-strength, with 70 staff across its offices in Nottingham, Birmingham, London and Scotland - achieving a turnover of  £3.8 million last year, expected to increase to £4.5 million in 2017/2018.
