Area’s engineering and manufacturing companies urged to get involved with Made in Chesterfield

Destination Chesterfield is calling on engineering and manufacturing businesses across North East Derbyshire to get involved with this year’s Made in Chesterfield Festival.

Companies operating in the manufacturing and engineering sector are being sought by event organisers Destination Chesterfield and Derbyshire Education Business Partnership to welcome young people from the area’s schools into their premises throughout November.

A special information session for businesses that wish to get involved with Made in Chesterfield 2017 is being held on Tuesday 20 June at 5.00pm at East Midlands Chamber Commerce House in Chesterfield.  Booking is at www.chesterfield.co.uk/events/made-in-chesterfield-get-involved

Made in Chesterfield is now in its fourth year, and each consecutive year it engages with more young people and teachers, showing them the modern face of industry and the many careers and job roles on offer within the sector locally. In previous years, companies have offered site tours, delivered school talks, practical work experiences and held design competitions during Made in Chesterfield.

According to reports, Britain needs to produce 69,000 more engineers than it is now to meet the demand in the industry.  With skill shortages and Brexit looming, it is more important than ever for companies operating within the manufacturing and engineering sector to engage with the next generation of workers.

Ivan Fomin, Managing Director of MSE Hiller and the lead for the town’s Engineering and Manufacturing sector on the Destination Chesterfield Board said: “The support of engineering and manufacturing businesses across the town is essential to the success of Made in Chesterfield. While the sector is currently thriving, with £1bn of developments taking place in the Borough over the next 10 years, it is more important than ever that we have the home grown talent to meet the growing demands of the sector.

“We want to tackle the skill shortage that many employers in the sector are reporting by showing showing young people the great careers they could be aiming towards. The only way we can do this, is if companies come forward and get involved with Made in Chesterfield.”

If you are unable to attend the special information event and your company would like to get involved with Made in Chesterfield, please contact Dominic Stevens on 01246 207 207 or email dom.stevens@chesterfield.co.uk
