WFP Fabrications Land First Overseas Order In Light Of Brexit

An Ilkeston-based company has secured its first overseas order despite manufacturers concerns that EU trade would be affected following the triggering of Brexit.

WFP Fabrications, a waste management fabrications specialist, will supply Mv Xuereb Demolition in Malta with two heavy duty extra, rolled side roll on off, which is a brand new line being launched by the firm.

According to a report in the Financial Times, the UK Treasury estimates that EU membership has boosted trade in goods and services by 76 per cent. It suggests that the volume of trade would fall between nine and 24 per cent after Brexit is actioned.

Matthew Holmes, managing director of WFP Fabrications, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the company and a great start for the new model that we are manufacturing.

“The reason that Mv Xuereb Demolition came to our Ilkeston-based company to place the order is because there is nobody else, to the company’s knowledge, that is manufacturing the heavy duty waste units in Malta.

“Countries such as Malta require units that are much stronger than the usual bins because of the quality of the land. There is a lot of rubble and heavy duty material that needs disposing of. I know that Brexit has brought about much doom and gloom, but this shows that we are still making relationships abroad."

The order will be shipped to Mv Xuereb Demolition in Malta later this month.

WFP Fabrications is launching the new heavy duty, rolled side model following an investment of £15,000 in a new press.

Designed to deal with heavy duty waste, the new product launch is a preferred specification for construction companies.

Matthew added: “In light of Brexit – We hope to continue building strong relationships with companies overseas both in and out of the EU and hope that this is the first of many orders to come.”

The Malta-based company discovered WFP Fabrications following a mutual connection with a Scotland-based company, who recommended them due to the company’s good work and reliable reputation.
