Defence College signs the Armed Forces Covenant

Welbeck, The Defence Sixth Form College has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, ensuring all of their employees are treated fairly if they are currently serving with the Armed Forces as a reservist or have completed previous military service.

The college, based on Forest Road in Woodhouse near Loughborough, pledged their support at an event on Tuesday 7 March in which they showed both their commitment and flexibility to employing members of the Armed Forces Community by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.

Welbeck, who currently employs two reservists, has now joined a number of employers from across the region in publically acknowledging and understanding that those who serve or have served in the military, and their families, should be treated fairly and with respect in the workplace.

John Wilson, the Ministry of Defence’s Regional Employer Engagement Director, said: “We are delighted that the sixth form college has signed the Covenant, recognising that their employees who have undertaken military training as ex-regulars or reservists bring a range of transferable skills to the workplace; such as the ability to think on their feet, solve problems, communicate effectively and show dedication to projects.”

Peter Middleton, Principal of Welbeck, The Defence Sixth Form College, signed the Armed Forces Covenant on behalf of the college. He said: “We’re delighted to be able to sign this arrangement with the Armed Forces as it is linked with everything that the college stands for.

“This Covenant reaffirms our commitment to support the reservists and many former service personnel we employ as well as their families.

“That is particularly important as many of our students will go on to play major roles with the Armed Forces in the future.”
