Housebuilder on the Hunt for New Apprentices in Nottinghamshire

Barratt Homes North Midlands is continuing its positive work to support local employment, by creating three new roles to develop talent across Nottinghamshire in the construction industry.

The five star housebuilder, which is based in Nottingham, aims to recruit three new trade apprentices specialising in bricklaying or carpentry and joinery to work across its developments in East Leake, Cotgrave and Mansfield.

The vacancies come ahead of National Apprenticeship Week, running from March 6th-10th, which celebrates the benefits of apprenticeships for individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

Chris Southgate, Managing Director of Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “The construction industry is continuing to grow and this is an exciting time for anyone with an interest in housebuilding to join a market leading company.

“As one of the country’s top developers we are absolutely committed to developing raw talent and I believe that we have a duty to provide these kinds of apprenticeship opportunities.”

The new trade apprentices, who start in September, will be based on a housing development site in the county and will learn skills in bricklaying or joinery from experienced tradespeople for four days a week.

They will also spend one day a week at college undertaking a qualification in their chosen field.

Jack Broughton, 22, who is from Nottinghamshire, is currently doing a joinery apprenticeship at Barratt Homes’ Cotgrave development Hollygate Park. He said: “The fact that Barratt Homes is a leading company in the construction industry attracted me straight away and made me want to go for the apprenticeship.

“I'm really enjoying learning all about the different areas in joinery and physically building things as these are two things you can learn more about whilst on site rather than being in a classroom.

“I love working in a team environment and seeing the site progress on a day to day basis and I’m trying to take in as much information as possible whilst gaining this valuable experience.

“I’ve heard of Barratt Homes before and know that they are a well-established company that pride themselves on quality. They seem to reward hard work, allowing those employees to have a chance to move up within the company which is very promising for someone like me.”

All programmes are well structured and tailored to individual needs. Apprentices will receive encouragement, support and guidance to help them develop, giving the skills and qualifications for a successful career.
