Miller Homes Gives Derbyshire Pupils a Lesson in Health and Safety

Children from Parkside Junior School in Ashbourne have been getting clued up about the importance of health and safety on building sites, thanks to Miller Homes Midlands.

Pupils were presented with an interactive assembly by health, safety and environmental manager Gary Kuzmicz on the potential risks and hazards around construction sites. He also discussed how new homes are created and what the future of house building may look like.

Gary said: “Health and safety is a key part of what we do and we aim to make sure children close to our Oaklands Park development know about any possible dangers they may face.

“We had a fantastic response from the children at Parkside they were really keen to get involved. Developing strong links within the local community is imperative to Miller Homes and we’re really happy to help where we can.”

Youngsters also learnt how to recognise the different definitions of warning signs used and steering clear of vehicles, such as trucks and forklifts. They were also given special Miller Homes reflective snapbands to ensure they are easily visible when out and about.

Head teacher Miss Paula Whysall said: “In the assembly by Miller Homes, the children were made aware of the potential dangers and hazards on a building site. It is important to all of us to keep our children safe, and I’m sure they all learnt some valuable lessons.”
