Intu Centres Bring Epic Fun to February Half Term

STAFF from Nottingham’s intu Victoria Centre and intu Broadmarsh have continued their partnership with local charity, Epic Partners, by volunteering their time and expertise to support their regular ‘Community Games’ holiday club during February half term (14th – 16th February).

Four volunteers from intu Victoria Centre and intu Broadmarsh spent several days with local children, predominantly from the St Ann’s and Sneinton areas of Nottingham, introducing them to new opportunities in the City as well as supporting the children at sessions which include outdoor fun such as football, swimming, multisports and visits to local attractions.

As well as providing volunteers to support the programme at each Community Games event, intu previously donated £2000 in October 2016 to help enable the project. Retailers from intu Victoria Centre also got involved, with Ed’s Diner, Skinny Dip and Tiger supporting an incentive programme designed to reward good behaviour.

On the final day of the Community Games programme, six of the children were selected for their good behaviour and received a morning of treats at intu Victoria Centre, starting with breakfast at Ed’s Diner, receiving VIP treatment from the chef, and going home with exclusive goodie bags containing gifts from Skinny Dip or Tiger.

For some of the children the games offer the only form of organised fun and educational activity during the half term holiday.

Nigel Wheatley, general manager at intu Victoria Centre and intu Broadmarsh said: “This is the second time we have worked with Epic Partners at their Community Games and we received fantastic feedback from our previous volunteers, who got so much out of the project and loved supporting the children.

“We want to help shed light on the project and the positive changes it is bringing to neighbouring community in terms of enabling young people to meet new friends and to learn something new.

“This is a really worthwhile project and fantastic for enhancing the skill sets of both the young children taking part in fun and educational activities, as well as our staff who have the chance to act as mentors and help to make a positive impact on the community, supporting day trips for the children such as swimming at Victoria Leisure Centre and a trip to Twin Lakes.”

The Community Games project is a proven successful programme of activities for children from the St Ann’s and Sneinton area, attracting up to 90 children to participate during the school holidays. The price for each child costs £2 per day or £3 per family, which entitles young children to enjoy a whole day of activities.
