Exam success for staff at accountancy firm

Two members of staff at leading accountancy firm Newby Castleman are celebrating after becoming fully qualified accountants.

Wesley Savage and Richard Molloy have both received their Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualifications, after several years of studying.

Wesley, who is based at the firm’s Loughborough office, had an additional reason to celebrate as the results of his final exams came through on his 30th birthday. It marked the end of a ten year journey from beginning his first accountancy course, run by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).

He explained: “From a young age I was always good at maths and felt I would enjoy a career in accountancy. When the time came to make a decision on my career, I knew I could either go to University or I could start an apprenticeship, which would allow me to get some relevant experience and earn some money as well. For me, that was always the better option.

After successfully completing the AAT qualification, I took a break from studying for a short period, before I decided to start on the ACCA qualification, which was around four years ago.

Newby Castleman have always given me plenty of opportunity to progress and my studies have gone hand-in-hand with my work, which has helped me build up my knowledge and expertise.”

26 year old Richard, who works at the firm’s head office in Leicester, began studying for his ACCA qualification in mid-2012. Like Wesley, he enjoyed maths at school and decided against University studies in order to begin making progress on his career ambitions straight after completing his A Levels.

He said: “I knew taking this route would allow me to earn money whilst also studying towards a globally recognised qualification. I’ve always been interested in business – Richard Branson is one of my idols – and being able to work with a variety of different businesses and see how they do things is quite fulfilling.

During my time at Newby Castleman, I have been exposed to a wider variety of businesses and have had the opportunity to visit them and work closely with them, which I really enjoy.

I’ve also been given an exciting opportunity to join the audit team as of the start of this year, which will give me the chance to gain some experience in that area.”

Stephen Castleman, Partner at Newby Castleman, said: “We are delighted for Richard and Wesley, who have excelled in their studies and worked exceptionally hard to become ACCA-qualified. Both are a pleasure to work with and we look forward to seeing them continue to develop their careers here.

We are committed to nurturing talent and pride ourselves on providing a platform for the next generation of accountancy professionals to realise their full potential.”
