Couple Makes Buckets Of Savings After Energy Saving Instillation

A couple who have heated their house by burning buckets of solid fuels for the last decade have championed SecoTherm Gel, after it is estimated to save them £379.60 on energy bills in just one year.

Irene, 63, and John Baugh, 64, have been heating their five-bed semi-detached house in Barnsley with two multi-fuel stoves for over 10 years, in a bid to save money on gas and energy bills.

Following a visit form an EnergySave representative last October, the couple decided to have SecoTherm Gel applied to their road-side wall after experiencing issues with damp due to a period of heavy rainfall.

EnergySave, which is based in Derby, Ilkeson, Leeds, Newcastle-Under-Lym, Sheffield and Leicester, is made up of a team of energy saving professionals who provide a range of money saving solutions, including SecoTherm wall coating, UPVC products, and Voltage optimisers.

John said: “The heavy rainfall we experienced towards the end of last year, combined with our front wall being close to the roadside, meant that water was getting splashed on our building by passing traffic, causing damp.

“After EnergySave treated the front wall with SecoTherm Gel, we noticed an instant improvement. Originally, we we’re using 12-16 kilos of fuel a day, but after just the first week the buckets started getting lighter and lighter!”

The SecoTherm Gel installation creates immediate results as it acts as a water repellent as well as an insulator, making it ideal to combat damp. A month after the initial treatment, John and Irene decided to have SecoTherm Gel applied to the second most exposed wall on their property.

John added: “After the second treatment we noticed we we’re saving 3 to 4 kilos of fuel a day, which adds up to about £1.04 a day. For us, this is something truly amazing as when you are on a pension, every penny counts.”

The daily savings that the couple are experiencing can be used to forecast a total saving of £379.60 over 12 months, with a possibility for this figure to increase.

John added: “As we head into summer and the house gets dryer, there’s scope for us to save even more money as we won’t be using nearly as much fuel.”

Jason Rowan, managing director at Energy Save, said: “We are always delighted to hear such positive feedback from a client and it shows the difference that our energy saving solutions can make.

“Receiving a thank you email from John and Irene after we carried out work in their home really means the world to us as a company and shows the difference that our work makes to clients.”
