As part of intu’s devolved budget, a fund set aside by the company to support local charities and community projects, £300 was awarded to the Maggie’s Nottingham centre, based at the City Hospital Campus as part of an ongoing partnership between the two organisations.

Gardening therapy is one of the services offered by Maggie’s, with a regular gardening group taking place at the centre. This therapy aims to encourage those living with cancer to participate in a creative activity alongside others going through a similar experience, being in a natural environment has been shown to have a positive effect on wellbeing, improving mindfulness and reducing stress levels.

Speaking of the donation, Nigel Wheatley, general manager at intu in Nottingham, said: “Maggie’s is an organisation which is incredibly important to those in and around the city who are affected by cancer and relies on the support of donations and fundraising to continue the fantastic work that they do.

“Our team play a huge part in selecting local causes for us to support, meaning each and every donation we make will help incredible organisations across Nottinghamshire such as Maggie’s. We’re pleased to know that we have helped to support a programme which will support Maggie’s in its amazing work and we hope the garden will continue to thrive for years to come.”

Elizabeth Credgington, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s in Nottingham, said: This kind donation from intu is already making a difference and offering hope to people who have been affected by cancer. Without the support we receive from local businesses, we wouldn’t be able to continue offering a wide range of support, including our popular gardening therapy.”

Maggie’s offers free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends and help is offered freely to anyone with any type of cancer.
