“A typical first-time buyer can afford to buy a two-bedroom home, so with a decline in these being purchased by investors this leaves a wider choice of property available to them.”

Karan suggests that this preferred target area has seen the biggest price rises both month-on-month (+2.6 per cent) and year-on-year (+6.4 per cent) of any sector. With less competition from other buyers, first time buyers have the chance to negotiate and get the upper hand.
