Russell Scanlan to Support Notts Charity in 2017

Nottingham’s largest independent insurance broker, Russell Scanlan, has announced its chosen charity for 2017 as the Nottingham Stroke Club.

The charity, which is affiliated with The National Stroke Association, is the city’s leading support group for those who have suffered from a stroke and a cause close to the Russell Scanlan team’s hearts.

The Nottingham Stroke Club, based at Goldsmith Street, currently receives no direct fundraising and relies upon the goodwill of local organisations and volunteers to help run the group's weekly meetings. The club is so popular, there is currently a waiting list in place but this lack of resource and lack of volunteers to help, means there is currently no option to expand.

Bryan Banbury, Managing Director at Russell Scanlan, said: “After fundraising for a Nottingham charity last year, we wanted to continue to support a local charity that makes a significant difference to our community. The Nottingham Stroke Club was the perfect fit.

"The club is a great cause, providing invaluable support and information to those who have had their lives changed by a stroke, but its lack of funding means this brilliant service is limited to only a certain number of people. We want to change this by helping to raise vital funds and source volunteers to help the club grow to help as many as possible.

“We have many exciting fundraising ideas in the pipeline for this year with the aim of raising as much as we can so the club can, including our very popular annual charity quiz at Trent Bridge in October.”

Stroke occurs approximately 152,000 times a year in the UK, or one every three minutes and 27 seconds according to the Stroke Association.

Our Stroke Club gives the people of Nottingham who have suffered a stroke somewhere to share their experiences and talk to others who understand – helping to rebuild confidence which may have been lost. Corporate fundraisers like Russell Scanlan can make a huge difference to these important services and the levels of support we can provide – whether its rehabilitation exercises and day trips or just a friendly face to talk to.”

Russell Scanlan raised nearly £4,000 in 2016 for the Linden Lodge Neurological Unit, a specialist centre sponsored by Nottingham Hospitals Charity.
