Goosedale Gets Planning Go-Ahead for Holiday Lodges

PLANNING permission has been granted for a £1.5 million project to build nine luxury holiday lodges at leading Notts events venue Goosedale, creating around 30 jobs.

A family business, Goosedale is part of a 130-acre site in Papplewick and classed as one of the premier venues in the Midlands for weddings, conferences, exhibitions, business fairs and gala dinners – hosting around 300 events a year.

Goosedale is set to increase its offering to customers with the luxury lodges which will provide 26 rooms and accommodation for up to 60 people. With the luxury accommodation in a stunning rural setting overlooking the Nottinghamshire countryside and Goosedale’s own lake, it will also attract holidaymakers.

Gurpal Hayer of Goosedale Group said: “We have been looking into the creation of top-quality accommodation in the form of sustainable luxury holiday lodges for some time, and have worked closely with Gedling Borough Council to find the right solution for the site.

“We are delighted to have received planning permission for the accommodation. These luxury lodges will enable us to offer beautiful rooms in a rural location to our existing customers – as well as looking at the tourism market.

There are a wealth of tourist hot spots locally for visitors to see such as Sherwood Forest, Newstead Abbey and Nottingham Castle, he added. There are also a number of activities including horse-riding, fishing and golf close to Goosedale.

Gurpal said: “Goosedale is already a well know location, attracting event organisers from all over the UK. This is a unique offering in the Midlands and will help secure our position as a landmark venue for the UK.”

Work is to start on site on Goosedale luxury lodges early this year and is expected to complete in autumn.

There will be significant job creation in the build process, along with the operation of the lodges. “We are committed to job creation and are proud of Goosedale’s wider contribution to the local economy in Gedling,” added Gurpal.

Lincoln-based AM2 Architects designed the luxury lodges which will be self-catering and focused on family and friends holidays. The lodges have timber and green roofs, allowing them to blend in to their greenbelt surroundings. The bespoke design is to a high grade finish.

Councillor Jenny Hollingsworth, portfolio holder for growth & regeneration, said: “We are always pleased to approve projects that support local employment and the local economy. We wish Goosedale the best of luck with the new site and look forward to seeing its progress.”

Operating since 2005, Goosedale is a historic landmark site dating back to the 17th century. The venue is minutes away from Nottingham city centre and within easy access from junctions 26 and 27 of the M1.

Goosedale has internal and external space allowing for major events and smaller areas for more intimate occasions. It also hosts and organises the biennial Luxury Motor Show.
