As part of PASMA Tower Safety Week Leicestershire based OMS backed Women within the Construction Industry.

As we enter the year of 2017, 32 years on from when the blockbuster Back to the Future predicted there would be hover boards and self-tying shoe laces, it is amazing that one statistic still stays the same now as it does then - men make up 99% of all Construction Site employees. Of all the jobs within Construction companies, from the site to the offices, only 11% are women. More worryingly this figure is actually on the decline over the past 10 years. Luckily this issue has been raised and the wheels have been set in motion to work towards a goal of women making up a quarter of the UK’s Construction Workforce by 2020.

OMS are a Training & Consultancy company based in Coalville, Leicestershire and employee 6 women as a part of the 11 strong workforce, with women also making up 75% of the Management Team. They made strides during PASMA Tower Safety Week to address this issue and raise the awareness of the lack of diversity within Construction as a whole. OMS  offered a free place on a PASMA Towers for Users Course (training of safe practice on erecting aluminium mobile scaffold towers) on the 17th November 2016 for all women to attend. With the plan to hopeful raise the awareness within their current clients and future clients.

Allison Peasgood, HR & People Director at OMS has this to say:

“We were delighted to offer all women interested in working in the Construction industry the opportunity to attend this worthwhile course.  We hope that this helped to raise awareness of their under-representation in such an important sector”.

OMS will be exhibiting at the Love Business Expo at Stand D22 in the Construction & Property Zone on the 16th February 2017 at Donington Park.
