Nottinghamshire Firm Creates Atmospheric Teaching Facility At UoN Engineering Faculty

Local interior fit-out specialist B&M Installations has created a ‘wow factor’ teaching facility for engineering students within the Faculty of Engineering at The University of Nottingham.

The £230,000 investment at the University Park campus has seen the 200 square metre group design space and adjacent practical teaching laboratory transformed from a dated dark space into a modern fresh facility. Nottingham-based interior refurbishment specialist B&M Installations designed and fitted the project.

Luiza Da Silva, interior designer at B&M Installations, said:

“The staff members from the Faculty of Engineering wanted to create series of modern equipped spaces which would give a unique atmosphere and deliver a ‘wow factor’.  They would be used to support delivery of its new Aerospace degree course and wider improved teaching activities across the Faculty’s six departments.

“White, grey and blue was the chosen colour palette, as reference to the majority of aerospace companies that have this colour branding. We used blocks of colour to create strong features and break up the room from looking too white and blue chairs against lighter units worked well. We also opted for a light colour vinyl flooring to keep the room feeling tall and spacious.

“The large room previously felt very enclosed and dark, so we opened up the space by adding new glass partitioning to the entire length, making it feel a lot bigger. The large amount of glass where there was once solid walls, created a much more open feel to the space, and gave it lots of natural light. This also means people walking past can see into the stunning new lab.”

More than 400 students and staff will benefit from the modern equipped group design space area and laboratory.

This is the 40th project that B&M Installations has completed for the University of Nottingham in 2016, as it continues to improve facilities and learning environments for students and staff.
