B&M Installations Sees Double With Apprenticeship Pair Hire

Nottingham-based B&M Installations has appointed two electrical engineering apprentices to help bridge the skills gap in the industry.

L-R: Jordan Newton, Reece Henrys, Adam Cartwright and Purmash Chaddha.

The two teenagers from Nottingham are B&M Installations’ first apprentice hires and will be assisting the interior fit-out company’s in-house electricians on major refurbishment projects across the East Midlands.

Reece Henrys, 16, from Aspley said:

“I’m really looking forward to doing my apprenticeship at B&M and learn from experienced electricians. I’ve tried other courses at school, but an apprenticeship suits me best.”

Jordan Newton, 17, from Carlton said:

“I think an apprenticeship is the best way to learn a trade as you get to do the job for real, and have hands-on experience. I researched B&M before I came and was really impressed with the range of services they provide and am excited about learning with the team.”

Both Reece and Jordan are working towards a Level 3 in electrical engineering at New College Nottingham and will be working with B&M Installations over the next three years.

B&M Installations’ managing director, Graham Belfield said:

“We’re really proud to be taking on apprentices for the first time at B&M. As interior fit-out specialists, we offer a complete service from electrics to mezzanine floors, so we’ve got an experienced team who will give both Reece and Jordan a good grounding for their careers to come.

“There is a real concern about the skills gap across many trades in the construction sector and it’s up to local businesses to help youngsters get a foot in the door and choose a career in construction. We’re experiencing one of our busiest years ever and predict that the demand for office fit-outs and commercial refurbishments will continue to grow, so it’s key that we invest in the development of young people in the industry.”

New College Nottingham business to business key account executive, Jim Beard said:

“We know how important it is to be bringing new skills into the construction and engineering industry at the moment, so we have been working hard with key firms to help create apprenticeship opportunities. It’s brilliant that B&M have taken on two new electrical apprentices, showing their commitment to helping to train the next generation.

“It’s such an important time for the construction and engineering sector with regards to filling their skills gap, we are doing all we can as a college to help address this, including providing apprenticeship opportunities and working with businesses to help address their training needs."
