Five Star Housebuilder Keeps Pupils At Local Primary School Safe And Seen With High Visibility Donation

This month, pupils from Outwoods Edge Primary School in Loughborough are celebrating International Walk to School Month in style thanks to a donation of high visibility clips from David Wilson Homes.

The school has teamed up with local housebuilder David Wilson East Midlands, which is supporting the campaign by donating hi-visibility equipment for all the pupils to wear on their way to and from school.

As the nights start getting darker, the awareness month aims to encourage pupils to carry on walking to school but to wear high visibility equipment to ensure they are safe and seen.

Claire Wilson, Deputy Head Teacher at Outwoods Edge Primary School, said:

“We all know the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices and the positive impact it has on children's health and well-being.

“Walking to school, whenever possible, is one way for children to participate in exercise and with autumn upon us and the darker nights coming, the children will benefit from David Wilson Homes’ kind donation as it will help the children to stay safe on their journey to and from school."

The most recent results of the annual National Travel Survey 2015 showed the number of children walking to primary school is currently at the lowest figure ever. Despite the average distance between a pupil’s home and primary school being just one mile, the survey revealed only 48% of children walk there on a regular basis. The survey also discovered 70% of the children’s parents claimed they regularly walked to school as children.*

John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands said: “Our development The Chimes is located close to the primary school, so as families move in to their new homes it made perfect sense for us to support Walk to School Month and the pupils at the school.

“We wanted to support this local well regarded primary school by donating the high visibility clips to encourage their pupils to walk to school this month and stay safe as the darker nights draw in.”
